a wonderful quiet month
A wonderful quiet month.
January 3, it was my birthday. I made a real relax day and in the evening we went out for diner with Oscar and Karin who is still on vacation with us. First I ensured that the children were in bed so Shiroma, could babysit without any troubles. Because Quint was doing so well, I had all the time for fun things to do with Karin. She had really enjoyed and so did we. It was very pleasant.
Quint has 5 feedings throughout the day but because Quint does not drink well, he usually requires an additional feeding at night so he at least gets the minimum required intake. Every 2 weeks, we go to the baby clinic to have Quint weighed because it is very important that he continues to grow. Up till now he looks good despite the fact that the feedings are a disaster. Every three weeks, we have an appointment with our children liver specialist Dr. Waseem. A very good doctor. Quint’s blood values must be under constant surveillance because it is very important for them to reduce. Fortunately they reduce but it is very slow.
January 15 Quint turns for the first time, and he is on his tummy.
Melissa enjoys herself tremendously. She returned to school and in the afternoon she enjoys playing with her toys or video games on her V-tech console in her room. If her father has his day off we take the kids to a shopping mall and let Melissa play at one of the play areas. All major shopping malls have a large play area for children.
We try again to go on with a normal life but.... there is a lot going through your head. Will Quint stay well? Because we live in Dubai we realize that if something goes wrong, we as a family probably must live apart for some time because I will then have to settle near Brussels. Because we have experienced so much in recent months, I hope Quint will stay well a while so we again as a family can enjoy each other, but I worry a lot about this. Oscar thinks more simplistic. He says: We are living now and if there are any problems then we look for solutions at that time but now it is good and we must now enjoy our time. He is right but it is not easy to let go of my thoughts. I know that there are only few patients, who continue to do well after the Kasai procedure. We must therefore hope that Quint is part of that small group.
One thing you do realize: Our lives will never be without worries!
